It’s hard to get an accurate percentage of how many people consider furthering their education through college, and then decide not to because it simply costs too much money. Here are 5 ways you can get a college education for free, and realize your dreams of higher education.

1. Many universities are getting on the open course ware bandwagon and offering free on-line programs. By sharing their curriculum on-line these universities show that they are willing and able to help those who can’t afford to pay for a college tuition seek higher knowledge just the same. Offering free education says a lot about a university and where its focus is. The available courses are not all that varied as of yet, but the opportunities keep growing every day so keep checking up all the time.

2. Having access to the internet alone is enough to be able to obtain a college education. There is so much knowledge out there it’s almost ridiculous. Obviously, everything you read on the World Wide Web isn’t factual, but with a little cross referencing you can pretty much rule out what’s legit and what’s not. The more you read up on a subject, and/or, complete practice work that’s offered, the more knowledgeable you’ll become. So pick a subject and read, read, read.

3. Check out the many free open course ware classes that are available on-line. Download them for free, and begin your educational studies right from the comfort of your own home. There is lots of subject material in this medium available. Surf around until you find the subject you’re interested in. As long as your computer meets the technical requirements needed to use the course, and you abide by the stated terms and conditions of use, you are good to go.

4. Peer-to-peer University. This pilot program started up in September and shows great potential for a person who wants to get a free college-level education. These courses are a combination of open course ware classes with personalized instruction. You connect with your peers who are learning the same subject matter you are, and you share your knowledge and resources with each other. It makes finding material easier, and if you don’t understand something or you just want a little more clarification on a certain point of study you can collaborate with your peers to find the correct answer. Talk about a study-buddy!

5. You can locate free on-line course offered by many different universities. The universities are located all over the United States so don’t limit yourself to one state or one specific area of the country. Some of these universities also offer free access to libraries and books which can be a real big advantage to getting a free college education.

The good news is that the federal government offers some great student loans with no cosigner loans out there for people that need the. The bad news is that if you are trying to get a student loan from the private sector, and you have bad credit, you are going to face a stiff uphill battle.

The best way to get student loans with bad credit is to first seek out federal loan funding. The reason is that federal loans are no cosigner, no credit check loans. These loans are thus very easy to qualify for. The basic requirement is that you be a US citizen and have a valid SSN.

Federal student loans for New Yorkers also have some of the lowest loan interest rates in the business. Basically, there is no better deal you can get if you have poor credit. As you probably know, with bad credit you either simply cannot get loans or if you do get loans, you end up with sky high interest rates.
